After setting up razdc, and joining an existing domain, there appears to be no error messages, but when I log back into razdc, it just presents me with the option to create or join again. Upon reboot I get a significant error: "named.service - Berkeley Internet Name Domain (DNS)" failing to start. Screenshot included below:

From what I understand, in your instance RazDC is a secondary DC? What software are you running as primary domain controller?

Hi Bryan - sorry I didn't see your reply before posting the 2nd image. I am using Windows Server 2022 (with desktop experience - so the 21H2 main version).

No problem. Server 2022 is simply not supported. This is due to a limitation in samba4 you can see the AD schema levels here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/AD_Schema_Version_Support

The latest compatible M$ AD is sever 2012 R2. Im not sure if the users etc would have replicated with a 2022 schema but if it did, you could just update the DHCP to point to the new DC and perform a seize rolls along with a dnsmig to overtake 2022. But this is untested. As for RazDC acting as a secondary DC it will not work. All of the new DCs from M$ use WMI and samba does not speak that protocol (yet?)

Thanks for the info. Not sure how i didn't catch or know that! Thank you for the info and quick responses! Hopefully Samba development for AD takes off.
